La Savane - Located in the centre of town is this beautiful garden with palms and mango trees, and standing in the middle of the square a statue of Napoleon’s Josephine, beheaded in 1991 as a protest against slavery.
Cathedrale St-Louis - Built in 1875 this unusual iron building is where several of the island’s former governors are buried.
Musee Departemental d'Archeologie et de Prehistoire de la Martinique - This museum has relics and artifacts that date back to 3000 B.C. but nothing from the arrival of the first French colonials in 1600 and onwards.
Jardin de Balata - This tropical botanical garden was created by Jean-Philippe Thoze around his grandmother’s house, and is filled with flowers, shrubs and trees. The old Creole house has also been refurbished and is filled with antiques.
Sacre-Coeur de Balata Cathedral - This cathedral is a copy of one in Montmartre upon Paris, and overlooks Fort-de-France and is reached by taking route de la Trace to Balata. |

The Festival de Fort-de-France - (July) Held over two weeks in July this festival celebrates theatre and music and is held at the Théâtre Municipal in Fort-de-France.
Carnival in Martinique - (February) Celebrations beginning in January culminate in spectacular and colourful parades. |
